Cysteine also know as Cystine is a non essential amino acid and functions as an antioxidant and aids in protecting the body from toxins, copper toxicity, free radicals that are formed by smoking and drinking. Cystine / Cysteine aids in protein synthesis and is necessary for the formation of the skin and hair. Cysteine also critical to the metabolism of a number of essential biochemical s including coenzyme a, heparin, biotin, lipoid acid and glutathione. Cysteine / Cystine is synthesized from the amino acid methionine but it is also found in high protein foods such as poultry, wheat, broccoli, eggs, as well as garlic, onions and red peppers.
