Isoleucine like Valine and Leucine is a Branch Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) and an Essential Amino Acid. Isoleucine provides the ingredients for the manufacture of other essential biochemical components in the body. Isoleucine aids in muscle recovery after physical exertion and is needed for the production of hemoglobin as well as assisting with the regulation of blood sugar and inn blood clot formation. Suggested RDA for Isoleucine is in the range of 10 to 12 mg/kg of body weight per day. Best results are obtained when Isoleucine is taken in conjunction with the other BCAA s. It is best to maintain a balance between branch chain amino acids of 2 grams of leucine and valine for each gram of Isoleucine. I have also read suggested ratios of 5 grams of leucine, 4 grams of valine and 2 grams of Isoleucine per day for athletes primarily for bodybuilders. Best food sources for Isoleucine include meats, fish, cheese, most seeds, nuts, eggs, chicken and lentils. For other sources of Protein please consult the USDA website. Protein Supplements
