Branch Chain Essential Amino Acid - Leucine |

|
Leucine like Valine and Isoleucine is a Branch Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) and an Essential Amino Acid. Leucine helps provide for the manufacture of other essential biochemical components in the body some of which are utilized for the production of energy. Leucine aids in regulation of blood sugar levels, the growth and repair of muscle tissue, and energy regulation and minimizes the breakdown of muscle proteins that sometimes occurs after trauma or stress. Suggested RDA for Leucine is in the range of 14 to 16 mg/kg of body weight per day. Best results are obtained when Leucine is taken in conjunction with the other BCAA s. It is best to maintain a balance between branch chain amino acids of 2 grams of leucine and valine for each gram of Isoleucine. I have also read suggested ratios of 5 grams of leucine, 4 grams of valine and 2 grams of Isoleucine per day for athletes primarily for bodybuilders. Best food sources for Leucine include cottage cheese, fish, meat and vegetables. For other sources of Protein please consult the USDA website.
