Minerals are inorganic substances that the body needs in very
small
quantities. There are twenty two metallic elements in the body which
make up about 4 percent of total body weight.
Cobalt an essential dietary mineral is necessary for the formation of red blood cells and aids in staving off anemia. Cobalt is also part of vitamin B12 and little is need by the body usually about only 8mcg and there is no RDA for it at this time. Best food sources of cobalt include meat, kidney, liver, milk, oysters and clams. Toxicity and overdose symptoms of cobalt include damage to heart muscles, over production of red blood cells or damage to the thyroid gland.
